This is not civ. It doesn't pretend to be civ. If you want a week long cozy game of civ, go buy civ. Or buy it anyway and leave a long review about how it's not civ. You do you.

If you are tired of civ and looking for something different, punchy, and an hour long: buy this game. Does what it says on the box: hour long deck building 4x. Good stuff.

Addictive? Definitely. Fun? Addictive.
I see why people like it. The setting is very cool a lot like a show that rhymes with "pitcher". There are lots of stats to fiddle with and lots of undocumented rules to uncover. And it was cheap on sale!
But.. you know. You have to spend hours grinding every run. Walk all he way over the map to get food, walk all the way somewhere else, stand around "gathering" forever, walk back again, etc.
And there are no saves. death is permanent. Stuff you need is random. And every so often (not immediately, after you've invested the long tedious hours) events just happen to that kill everyone or destroy all your stuff.
Sometimes the story progresses.

The main thing you do is sail around between islands ferrying items you need to complete quests. The islands are far apart, the boat is slow, and the items you need are not recorded in your log so I guess you have to write them down. Just so you can get some dribs and drabs of story. I don't know why this gets such good reviews, but looking at the % of players with the most basic awards I'm guessing most people stop playing without bothering to review the thing.

I dunno. I did not find it that interesting. The setting is very limited. The dialog is a bit clunky. The story is kind of predictable. The game mechanic is fine, but there doesn't seem to be that much to it.

Particularly on sale, this is a buy no question. It's a fun game with a lot of fun winks at FTL, Halycon 6, out there, and probably others without being as punishing as those games. Effectively a mashup of FTL (without the ticking time bomb of a following army) and card collection.

I paid like 7 bucks. For that, no question worth a buy. Much of the series holds up so far and I'd pay that for reach and halo 2 alone.

What has not held up? Halo CE. Cartoonish, poorly designed, and tedious. Otherwise so far so good.

For every 10 minutes of actual game play there feels like an hour of bad, unskippable dialog. The whole premise is ridiculous even for a post-apocalyptic video game which would be fine if you didn't have to listen to so frikin much of it. The dialog is not super well written to boot so crappy exposition of a not great story.
The voice acting is solid at least (thank goodness).
I got it on super sail with DLC and I'm still wondering if I should return it.

EDIT: This has reached what I only hope is peak obnoxious where a character told me to "take a seat" at which point I have to push a button to... you know sit in a chair.. so he can monologue at me. No skip.

EDIT 2: Steam wants me to update this so.. in the context of the above: You can't save anything intentionally except a quicksave that keeps getting overridden. Which combines with all the unskippable cut scenes to both 1. hint at a bunch of story possibilities but 2. kill re-playability because to do that you know you'll have to sit through hours of the same tedious dialog and maybe. Assuming of course you haven't accidentally put yourself fin an unwinnable corner in which case... ?

Card based space city builder where you earn more cards as you beat various levels/goals in the game. Games run slightly long for me, but overall really enjoy it. Great value for the price I paid.

This is a really solid FPS in the old school duke nukem/quake/etc. tradition. Solid mechanics and maps and ambiance. Particularly on sale a no-brainer.
