Holy crap, this game is fricking dark. And I don't mean horror dark. The horror is effective but not really any darker than your average well made horror game. I mean dismal fatalism everything you love is dead and there's nothing you can do about it shouting into the void dark. Even the post-credits happy ending showing what you've accomplished is kind of a cold comfort after all the emotional trauma the protagonist went through to get there. And, you know, the physical trauma that literally everything else on the planet went through. Who knew essentially saving the world could make you feel so powerless and alone?

It's a damn fine piece of interactive storytelling. It just isn't a happy one. Now if you excuse me, I've got to go drink myself into a coma.
