This is an incredible game that I highly recommend. If you like Soulslikes then this game is on the level of Fromsoft Soulslikes at their best except maybe in the level design. This doesn't hold it back at all, and in some ways helps focus on the meat of the game which is the combat. Really, if you like Soulslikes at all I shouldn't need to say more, at the level of Fromsoft at their best in many areas is high praise I never expected to give out before playing this game. If you have even a little interest in this genre this game is a great choice that will not disappoint.

Game is good. Other people have said this and more, but I'll just say it does everything I care about from pokemon but better.

I have mixed feelings on this game. I think every dark souls game is better overall, but I really like what they attempted here. There are 4 fights that really stand out. If all the bosses/minibosses were of similar quality to the best 4, this game would be incredible. As is, when it shines it's really good, but when its bad it feels awful and I wonder why I'm bothering to even play this game. I didn't really like the design of most of the levels. I felt like the exploration aspects were poorly done for the most part. The most striking example to me is that I missed a prosthetic at the beginning of the game, and it was blocking over half of my prosthetic progression as a result. I eventually had to give in and look it up but by that point I was 70% of the way through the game. The non boss fight parts felt mostly annoying more than interesting. They took way too much time and effort, and I felt pidgeonholed into using stealth if I wanted to kill things without having an awful time fighting packs of 6+ enemies in a lot of areas. Or just running past because you are very fast in this game and there is very little incentive to fight mooks, unless you are grinding exp/coin. The movement feels pretty good most of the time, but I often felt pretty corralled by the environment. Sometimes I would just be thrown into areas without any grappling hooks or grabbable ledges available, and the truth of the movement not being all that free-form would be unveiled. I enjoyed my time with it, and I do hope they revisit the concept and do the weaker parts of the game justice. I think the more experimental nature of this game is too its detriment at times, and could be much improved with some more iteration and polish.

Overall verdict, its a good game and worth playing. It has its problem spots, but overall a solid addition to FromSoft's catalog.

For anyone who enjoyed CK2 this is a fantastic follow up. All of the core systems have been improved. After 77 hours I can say that there is still some jank in a few areas with some needed polish, but overall this is a fantastic release product. Once it gets a post release patch to clean up some of the more glaring bugs/issues it will be a truly phenomenal product. Even as it is I highly recommend it. I have been enjoying it immensely and will likely continue to enjoy it for many hours to come.

Excellent expansion/patch with tons of new changes to Europe that makes the region more exciting to play in. There are some minor balance issues, but nothing worth really mentioning and they are rapidly being patched out. I highly recommend.

Its a fantastic expansion. At the time of this review there are still some bugs to be worked out but it is worth every penny.

As someone who has played Civilization 5 for 250 hours I can say that while this game is very similar to Civilization 5 it has enough differences to be worth the price tag in my eyes. However as the game is likely to recieve expansions and dlcs that will take it from a great game to a fantastic game it may be worth waiting for a sale before buying. My review will mostly be comparisons to Civilization 5. With this in mind here are my thoughts:

Interface;
The interface design on the game is tightened up a bit on the main screen. Its a bit more sleek. However as a result some information is a bit small and hard to find at first as a result. Very functional and works just like Civ 5 for the most part. The biggest interface complaint is the Tech Web. The mostly blue and white coloring along with the almost unnoticeable difference between wonders and buildings on it makes it a chore to look at and sort through. Fortunately mods are already coming along to fix this so its not as big an issue as it might otherwise be.

AI:
A little better but the same as always. The game explains why the AI hates or loves you though so their reasoning is a bit more transparent. Unfortunately the AI is as dumb as always and having played on Gemini difficulty mostly they seem to barely present a challenge to an experienced player. As usual it seems like the main thing that keeps AI players afloat is the massive amount of cheating they do but in this game it seems like they don't do quite as much of it. The staggered spawning doesn't really matter because the AI returns to parity quite quickly. All in all its the same as its always been with the AI in Civilization. I personally find the AI to be the weakest part of this game just like in Civilization 5.

Civilizations:
What has been lost in variety from Civilization 5 has been made up for by balance and customizability. Providing a series of mostly balanced options the game offers you a chance to customize how your Civilization starts and prevents the first 5 turns from playing out mostly the same every time. While I do miss some of the more fun and unique units and buildings from Civilization 5 I think the system used here is overall better. The loss of Civilizations with terrible bonuses is good. These Civs do seem to lack personality but to be honest they never had personality in Civilization 5. Any personality attributed to the AI by players was created by the implied history of America for example.

Gameplay:
On the surface it appears to be incredibly similar to Civilization 5 and in a lot of ways, it is. Units can't stack, the map is hex based, resources are reskinned but the same, ect. Despite this the game plays quite differently with aliens proving more dynamic and challenging than barbariens ever were. Spies have been revamped and are both more useful and interesting. Trade routes work on a by city basis as opposed to a global limit encouraging massive trade empires. The culture trees promote far more diversification and interesting strategies with their synergy bonuses. The tech web, a huge change to the previous tree system of Civ 5 diversifies each Civilization far more than unique bonuses ever did and allows for many interesting strategies. Except for the Domination all the victories have been revamped creating interesting ways for players to win and allowing for a lot of time for other players to interfere. Expeditions and resource pods create more variety and must often be fought over by the aliens squatting nearby. Miasma while often irritating makes positioning all the more important. Sattelites, one of the bigger new additions have many varied and useful effects on the land beneath them. I could keep going on but in the end while most of the changes feel small in my opinion they all add up together to create a game that feels and plays very differently from Civilization 5. It is certainly an iterative sequel but it is a different game from Civilization 5 in a myriad of ways.

I am greatly enjoying my time with this game warts and all and I look forward to the dlc and expansions that will make it even better.
