This game feels like it's made for 12 year olds but marketed to adults.

Bad characters, bad story, bad voice acting, and the biggest offender - weak horror.

The "horror" is less scary horror and more green ghoul/green mist scooby doo horror that feels cheap and childish, which completely contrasts next to characters screaming profanity nonstop and the game working so hard to create a scary vibe.

The story is fed to you so obviously through obnoxious voiceovers starting the moment you begin the game. There is no sense of mystery or intrigue. The main villain is introduced, fully revealed, and KILLED in the first 15 minutes of the game. There are multiple opportunities to mess up taking down the killer but he will always die even if you intentionally mess up everything, showing from the very start that this game only provides the ILLUSION of choice.

The main storyline follows a bunch of obnoxious high schoolers who make terrible decisions and have dialogue so on-the-nose and simplistic it feels written by a toddler.

The only appeal is the dynamic storyline, but like the intro sequence shows, once you start to dig in and try new things you quickly realize you can make vastly different decisions and ultimately have no impact on the overall outcome of the game. It also uses the obnoxious bad story trope of "multiverses" to explain all the terrible plot holes and conveniently tie up the loose ends this game constantly creates.

The only way to get death scenes is to purposefully mess things up which even on the most "difficult" setting is incredibly hard to do, sometimes with 2 or 3 separate opportunities to save them in a row.

The gameplay sections are 100% pointless and serve absolutely no purpose. You move completely on-rails and the only "gameplay" aspect involved is finding the occasional collectible (all of which are completely obviously placed and outlined for you). These gameplay sections run around 30FPS, sometimes dipping down to 5-10FPS.

The ending is incredibly unsatisfying. It feels like a trailer for DBD rather than the climax of an 8-hour story that is 99% buildup. The end cutscene will always be the same no matter what sequence of events you take, so there is no method to make the ending anything but awful.

Definitely not worth playing, watch someone else play and laugh at the game with them. It will save you 40$ and a lot of sanity.

Really fun game, massively overhated for understandable reasons. Don't shy away because of the bad reviews, the gameplay is killer but just hindered by bad supplemental systems. Almost all of the bad systems have been improved and I am certain they will continue to be improved further in the future.
If you don't like unpolished games, wait a year and try it then. If you're down for a bit of unpolished grit with your fun, it's a solid game.

I was seriously looking forward to this game for years, and I was MASSIVELY dissappointed.

50 dollar game that can be completed within 4 hours. Not to mention, when you finish the game there is no semblance of endgame, it just ends and boots you back to main menu. I am genuinely curious how this is acceptable for a game that took years to make. The content is laughably shallow, the gameplay is decent at best, and overall spending any more than 10 dollars on this game is a bad idea. I ignored the bad reviews because i waited so long for this game, but after playing it for myself I can safely say this game sucks.
