A competent, but far from perfect game.

The game's strengths are its environments and setting. I've already read most of H.P Lovecraft's books and tales, so the story was nothing new and, frankly, became quite abstract, repetitive and annoying after the first half of the game.

I wish the game focused more on the mansion and had a darker tone - you spend half of the game in broad daylight, which is not very fitting for a game called Alone in the Dark.

The puzzles were fun at first, but halfway through the game I started to get really annoyed at having to solve puzzles every 5 to 10 minutes.

My review might have scared you, but Alone in the Dark is still a fun game that's worth playing, but only if bought on sale. If you enjoy third-person horror games, this game should quench your thirst.

I first played this as a kid without any clue what to do or where to go - it was too high IQ for me at the time.

Can't believe it took me almost two decades to play through Half-Life 1 entirely, but better late than never.

Half-Life 1 is the perfect example of a game that respects the player's intelligence. You control your character throughout the whole game - no boring cutscenes, annoying talkative characters or railroading. Instead, you need to figure out where to go on your own.

The game is very atmospheric, focused and simply fun to play. A Masterpiece.

A game with 16 player co-op deserves praise but it's far too early to buy it. As of July 2023, the game completely lacks content. The first two matches are fun to play, but there's a high chance you will never touch the game again in its current state.

Resident Evil 4 is my favorite game of all time. I was just 7 when I was gifted this game for the Gamecube, back in 2005. It's very hard to believe that 18 years have passed - I'm now 24, but I'm having the privilege to revisit the game that forever shaped who I were to become.

I really wish Steam had a "neutral" review option for games such as SIGNALIS.

I had read a lot of very positive reviews for this game by people I generally agree with, so I went in with an open mind and a wee bit of expectations. Little by little, however, I grew increasingly frustrated by the game.

The game's biggest strength is its setting and sound design. Its atmosphere is immersive and the dozens of sounds present in this game are unsettling and remarkable. The pixel art, the innovative radio mechanic and mixture of German and Japanese elements are all praiseworthy - too bad these good characteristics are overshadowed by its gameplay.

Unfortunately, the combat in SIGNALIS is bland, boring and repetitive. Halfway through the game, I simply started to run past almost every single enemy, even preferring to lose health than to engage in the game's awful combat system. It's akin to Silent Hill 2's combat, except that SH2 was released in 2001.

I'm a fan of inventory management in Survival Horror games, but having only six inventory slots throughout the whole game forces players to backtrack way too much. There is way too much backtracking for a game that doesn't have a very interesting map design. Backtracking in Spencer's mansion in Resident Evil 1 is fun because the mansion is highly detailed and diverse, whereas backtracking in an indie game is just repetitive and frustrating - specially if there are enemies on your way and you're forced to engage in the game's awful combat once again.

Lastly, the story is incredibly confusing and trippy. I tried to read and interpret all the notes and files carefully in order to understand what was going on, but they were too abstract and all felt the same. They were either incomprehensible notes or boring descriptions of androids and machines. I beat the game without knowing what happened at all - I would even go as far as to rate the game's story a 0/10.

I understand why a lot of people like SIGNALIS, but the problems I've listed above make me not recommend this game for the general public.
