Wilmot definitely earned some R&R after his stint at the warehouse.

This is a cozy little experience that is somehow the opposite of the first game, even while remaining the exact same game.

I'm done with Bethesda. I don't care if Elder Scrolls VI literally heralds the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Great job, Tango. Hopefully the talent that brought this game to light will be well-utilized somewhere else.

Hot take:
The game is amazing, and other AAA devs should absolutely be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ their pants.

No, it will not be the universal standard for all video games going forward, but it's not like everybody just gave up on playing video games after Ocarina of Time came out, either.

When the next Mass Effect game sucks just as hard as the last one, you're going to hear a lot of comparisons to BG3, and you should. At the same time, it would be stupid to start comparing EVERYTHING that comes out after this to BG3.

This game is a pleasant reminder of the magic that can happen when tremendous resources and talent are thrown at a worthy project, instead of an over-engineered profit machine based on microtransactions and engagement.

Give me discrete, stand-alone games made by real artists for the sake of making good games. Miss me with the "games as a service" ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

They don't all have to be staggeringly ginormous like Baldur's Gate III, but the fact that they made something so big in 2023 without sacrificing its' soul means that there's no excuse for the shallow heartless moneygrabs that the other guys are puking out.

The game's good. You should get it because you'll like it, and you should also get it as a wallet-based vote for quality game development.

Realism is off the charts here.

As the capitalist chad I am, I can stroll into the bank and ask for a 15k loan and they give it to me on the spot, no questions asked. I'm just like "hey i've got a great business idea. you know my uncle, right?" and they are like "sweet, have some cash, nobody is regulating us anyway lmao. lemme know if you need some more, we've got piles just sitting back there."

So i use my skills as a natural-born *ontrapanure* to use someone else's money to rent a place for my new business. I buy 3 things: a grill, some burgers, and a cash register. That's all a business genius needs to run a successful restaurant. BOOM. Efficiency. That's a minimally viable product, baby.

Oh right, and I almost forgot, I had to hire some unskilled labor too. I hire a 63 year old man, and I call him at 11:05am to let him know I've decided I want to open the restaurant today, and I've just scheduled him for a 12 hour shift that started 5 mins ago, so he better hustle over here or else I'll fire him.

So he walks into an empty room with a cash register and a box of frozen burger patties. I hand him a spatula and tell him good luck while I prance out to spend the rest of my loan money on blackjack and hookers.

I'm paying the dude $13/hr, so I pat myself on the back for being the job creator I am, and then I stroll on over to the bank again to take out another loan and do it all again.

Too good. Whoever you are, you need this game.

DRG is one of the few "better with people" games that I give a blanket recommendation for, and it's largely due to the fantastic online culture. The best comparison to the kind of instant camaraderie this game generates is probably Journey. Being on a team feels good, and this game gives you the tools to collaborate with silent strangers with zero friction. Whether you bring friends or not, whether you're on mic or not, whether you open the chat box or not, you're going to have fun and feel like you're part of an elite squad of murder miners.

The gameplay is a fantastic mix of combat and collection, and the meta-progression is wonderfully paced and engaging. It's super fun to slowly develop your loadout for one class, and the fact that you can seamlessly switch to any of the other three classes if things ever get stale makes it hard to get bored.

Also, for those with discerning taste in video game reviewers, the "hey hey people" factor definitely counts for something.

It's quite funny, with a couple of clever puzzles slipped in between the jokes. It's short and free, and there's really just no good reason NOT to play it.
