This is honestly one of the least enjoyable roguelikes I have ever played, and I have played a fair few at this point.

I don't mind difficult games. But the difficulty needs to be balanced by a sense of incremental progression - especially if you lose hard-won resources and have to restart from scratch - and that is almost completely absent in this game. Upgrading your town is the only thing that you keep across runs, and that takes multiple upgrades, which demand a large amount of resources that take a lot of time to collect...and which you lose instantly if you die. The feeling of wasted effort is so strong when playing this that it overrides any sense of satisfaction you might be able to get from finally completing one of those goals.

It's a very cute-looking game that plays brilliantly on the Steam Deck, and a lot of thought has clearly been put into its mechanics. But it feels like such a waste of time when the gains are so incremental and so easily lost, and when you often don't have sufficient resources to explore farther than a few steps away from your home. This needs some kind of relaxed mode, or a better fast travel system, or just something to make progression more rewarding. Maybe it just didn't click with me, or I'm missing something, but this feels far too punishing for its own good.
