wtf is this game about

this game had me bawling by the end, decisions don't really seem to matter (except for RP purposes) but the story was written expertly. DLC is fleshed out and has a lot of replayability.

Act 3 needs a lot more polishing, but would still recommend buying the game to whoever is thinking about it.

Game is super easy to get into for first timers, and combat isn't hard to get used to if it's your first turn-based combat game. Story IMO needs to be a bit more fleshed out for some companions (edit: this was partially addressed by new patches, but I still feel like a lot more should be done, especially for Karlach's ending). No performance issues until Act 3, most of them gamebreaking but fixed by reloading an earlier save before entering Act 3 (edit: don't know if these were addressed in the updates). I also feel like the Dark Urge should be the default player character, and I understand why a pure custom character exists, but there needs to be ten arrows pointing at DUrge for first timers, since he feels like Fane from DoS2.

My real complaint with the game is the lack of a "real" freedom of choice, because no matter what you do, you end up having to fight Ketheric, kill Orin, and go to the Netherbrain. There is a clear lack of content to make up for going the "evil" path. You miss out on 3 companions - Halsin, Karlach, and Wyll, whose stories are the better fleshed out ones in the game, only to get Minthara. You also miss out on a lot of quests in Act 2 and 3 as well as Dammon, who is a S tier vendor well into Act 3. I feel like to make up for going an evil route you should be able to recruit at least 2 other "evil" NPCs to make up for losing Karlach, Wyll, and Haslin. My votes go to Dror Ragzlin, Balthazar, and Nere, maybe even Ketheric Thorm since there are dialogue options to convince him to change his ways.

WHEN NUB PLEY DOTA DAS A BIG PROBLEM

First impressions: Amazing game, true to the source material.
For a new release game (2023 gaming Aware) it's surprisingly bug free and optimized to run extremely smooth at max graphics on a high end PC
Map and environment is amazing, fast travel is a great addition but there are times where I didn't use fast travel just because I wanted to enjoy the scenery.
Storyline and dialogue are really well-written, only complaint about it is that your dialogue options make no real decision to the outcome of the game
Combat is really fun and Dark Souls ish (nerf vegetables), I just wish it was a bit harder
My only real complaint about the whole game is the the lack of re-playable content in the game, I don't really see a point to play the game after I've finished all the quests. Adding multiplayer and/or harder late-game bosses could be an easy fix to that.
[SPOILERS AHEAD]
- just a bit of nitpicking but the Demiguise quest was literally useless in terms of what you actually gain - you don't need higher levels in Alohamora to complete the game.
- 3rd and 4th trials felt a bit rushed imo, it was again just straight up combat
- Stealth+Herbology in talents is insanely busted
