Okami is an amazing game.

But this is locked to 30fps! WTF? Don't bother if you actually want to have acceptable performance

This is the best soulslike except for Bloodborne, and it's a close competition. Seriously amazing game. GOTY 2023 and honestly, probably the past 3 years or so. I'll do a rundown by category.

Combat is like Bloodborne in that it encourages aggression. All enemies in this slowly heal themselves to a certain extent, and enough DPS will grant you a stagger and a fatal blow. You can also restore your healing items when they're empty by getting enough hits in. It's all very smooth, fluid and gives you a massive variety of awesome unique weapons and builds to play around with. Weapon design in this is amazing - each have completely unique movesets and their own two super attacks, which, again, encourage aggression because you get the stuff to use these moves by attacking. There is also a very cool mechanic where you can combine different weapons to make new ones. Difficulty-wise, this is harder than Dark Souls or Bloodborne once you get past the first few areas. Bosses get incredibly difficult and often feel they're designed to be done with the optional spectre you can use to help you. It will kick your ass. Don't play this as your first souls.

The story uses the fromsoft lore style, but is a bit more direct with what's going on and this works out very well. And the side quests actually give you an idea of what you're supposed to do instead of extremely vague paths you have to google like in Dark Souls.

Soundtrack - phenomenal. Every boss has a unique theme song, and there are also records you can collect which are often quite beautiful. God, Quixotic is so gorgeous. Some special levels also have background music, which is a nice touch.

Level design is, again, extremely high quality. Follows a similar style to FS games and gives you just enough exploration room for it not to be linear and keep it constantly interesting but not that you get lost. Lots of shortcuts and little secrets to be discovered. Lots of enemy variety, which is great.

Graphics/performance - blew me away. The game is absolutely stunning and runs shockingly well with that in mind (with a 3070ti/5800x3d/32gb 3600mhz I get 120-150 fps maxed @1440p). Like seriously, if you zoom in on a texture there is zero distortion. None. I'm amazed this fits on 8gb vram. Needs a photo mode!

So yeah. This is incredible. Play it.

Masterclass in horror storytelling. Deeply disturbing, visceral and written in a way that keeps you glued to the screen. Very unique, though provoking story that really digs into the dark side of human morality. Incredible visuals. Amazing

Fantastic, as always from this series. It's a bit slow to get going but once it does it's pretty much what you'd expect from a Yakuza - ridiculous and crazy combat, a dark engaging story (definitely not for the faint of heart, this game is brutal!), wonderfully weird side quests, and some of the best damn writing in the video game industry. It's insane how consistently high quality RGG's storytelling is. Kiwami 2 experiments a bit by having a much bigger emphasis on weapons rather than hand to hand combat compared to its predecessor, and it's a big step up in that the enemies have far more varied movesets. My one real complaint is the bosses are too easy. I played it on hard and and it's too easy to just shred through them with an arsenal of weapons.

Gets boring really fast. It's a horror game but it's so corny and just not scary that you can't take it seriously. Relies a ton on cheap jumpscares (that are only scary the first time, after that it's like yeah whatever) and the janitor, who works similarly to mr x in re2, is really just an annoyance rather than anything that feels like a threat. Combine that with the corny "ooooh" ghost sounds and monsters/jumpscares that look like bad 90s CG, and you have a game that tries so hard to be a horror game in all the wrong ways.

Fantastic trilogy. The style of gameplay that combines strategy and multiple paths to take is super addicting and levels are consistently very high quality and fresh. The story is definitely confusing at first but embrace it, it's a slow burn and becomes a very good political thriller. It's really one big game/story that's packaged as 3 separate titles, so you will need to play all 3 in order for the whole story (not a bad thing in this case, hah). 3 is the best of the trilogy IMO but they're all wonderful. Must play

Really fun unique little adventure. Visually, absolutely stunning - so vibrant, detailed, just beautiful with a very Disney-ish art style for the characters. The world is very well crafted with lots of little secrets to find, clever gameplay mechanics and the little Rot guys are so cute. They're not just for show - they help you interact with the environment and become very valuable combat assets. The combat is a liiitle dull at first, but later as you unlock more abilities and items it becomes very fun, fast, flashy and smooth. The story isn't complicated but it is well written and serves its purpose well. Highly recommended
