Ibex MkII-class Corvette

Description
Summary

This ship has been built with Survival mode in mind from the start, and it has been tested in it. The ship has no subgrids and is my MOST optimized and practical design in some 2,100 hours (although that was mostly creative mode). For me, on low inventory size settings, build time with access to a refinery, assembler, hand tools and little jetpack usage is about 6 hours, but it could be done much quicker probably.

The Ibex-class corvette was originally proposed in mid 2080 to fulfil primarily the roles of a cost-effective ship, capable of defending planetary installations from light attacks from small craft, and to conduct the same against hostile installations. The original design had potential for some reconfigurations that would make it suitable for operations in vacuum or low-G space, thus a MkII revision which brought this potential into reality was rapidly put into production.

With these improvements the Ibex MKII-class corvette is now feasible as a light exploration ship, this supported by the basic assembler to complement the exterior-mounted survival kit.

The hull design offers a robust conveyor network, redundant systems, plentiful cargo space for ammunition and supplies, good lifting capability and agility. As far as combat capability is concerned, Ibex does have some drawbacks including areas which can easily become blind spots when particular turrets are targeted. There is also the dependence on the costly 200mm missiles for most of its offensive firepower. Finally the main systems are somewhat exposed when angles of attack which allow the most effective use of the turrets are used. On the other hand, the cockpit is buried in the deepest depths of the ship which provides good protection, the interior turrets provide a good supplement to firepower, and the three forward cameras offer good redundancy. The interior turrets and hydrogen propulsion combined do somewhat add to the maintenance overhead.
