Early Access Review
I am sad that I have to write this review. As you can see I have over 250 hours in the game. Apart from it being in EA state and haven't been released even after 5 years of development and only so little changed; there is a change that came with A17 that I have to talk about.

I can't comprehend how can you simplify the game mechanics and call it "improvement". Before we had quality range on tools, weapons and clothes, ranging from 1 to 600. That determined the normal damage, block damage or defensive attributes of the said equipment. Even before that, the range was from 1 to 6. I was really happy that they decided to increase the max cap. It added depth to the game. Made you feel like you have to increase the quality of your equipments. Even if you found 60 quality axe you were happy to throw your 45 quality one. Destroying a Wall Safe that had 2500 health with 25 block damage dealing tool vs 30 block damage dealing tool mattered.

After 1.5 years of waiting from A16 version to A17, they reversed the system. It ranges from 1 to 6 again. There is no difference between fully repaired quality 1 vs half damaged quality 1 axe. Same flatted block damage.

It may sound such a little feature to whine about but after total of 8 hours of gameplay in A17. I clearly can see it killed my excitement for loot. Watching development videos, reading notes in my spare time. I still only see developers going at snail-speed. They can't see the real problem with the game. They don't listen to the player base. Every player says similar stuff under their posts and videos. None of them have been addressed in any way.

I don't think this game will come out soon

Thanks @AbyssHawke, that's exactly what I was looking for. This has been in my backlog for ages and it sounds like it went way off the rails.

@Drox I hope by "good" you don't mean "stable" version of the game. Because there isn't one. But, If you already bought the game and already do have more than 2 hours, I would suggest you to roll back to A16x version and download "War of the Walker" mod either from the official site or modnexus.

Get used to using the "favourite" button because game lags like mad in inventories and benches. Use favourite function on basic crafting materials and your choice of building materials and click the "favourites" button on top. It ends the UI fps drops.

I believe you can deal with the rest

How far back do I have to go to play a good version of this?

They got enough money, now they are just enjoying the small steady flow of income they have left by "Improving and updating" the game

I need to make an addition after playing another 20 hours in this *facepalm*.

In A16 If your tools gets under 50% of durability their overall block and entity damage was decreased. And repairing the said item would decrease it's quality to some degree. That decrease could be lowered with some passive skills that you could buy with skill points. So; unexperienced player repairing an 100 quality item gets 90 quality item in return. Experienced survivor could get 98 quality with passive repairing skills. So you had to calculate when to or not to repair the tools.

BUT, IN A17, tools' entity and block damage DOES NOT effected by durability of that item at all. And REPAIRING DOES NOT decrease the quality. SO, you can get quality 6 pistol and endlessly shoot with it. As long as you have repairing kit in your inventory, there will be no degradation. MEANING: You won't need to find another pistol for the ENTIRE GAME because you already have that top quality one.

This review hits A17 pretty much dead on the nose! The "revamp" of the progression, weapons, and quality system has put all our group's 7D2D adventures on hold.

My only two other complaints not outlined above is the devs desire to transform every single house into some degree of dungeon crawling, and the odd fact that all buildings have only sleepers in them. It makes sense for at least some buildings to have awake and wandering zombies
