The Remake We Didn't Need But Still Enjoyed

Did we really need this remake? I definitely don't think so. Having played the original a few years ago, it still holds up greatly. Is this remake the optimal way to experience Dead Space now? Yes. Was this a waste of resources, work, and effort? Yes.

Amazing HUD Design

One of the revolutionary aspects of Dead Space is its lack of an obvious HUD or at least the way the game doesn’t make it obvious. Every detail is a part of game universe and not displayed on your monitor or television screen. This design is typical of the fact that you actually feel way more immersed in the game.

Good Stuff

What Dead Space does especially well is the ability to immerse the player into the moment. It also doesn’t employ what you would expect for cutscenes in most other games. All of the story occurs at the present tense and that is what makes real time feel very real. The story itself is not bad, it's not heavily focused so it never bored me. Also, the fact that the game has no loading screens is again, phenomenal. The atmosphere is very good, new graphics look way better, as expected. And the optimization is top-notch, which is hard to find in PC gaming in 2025.

What more can I say that hasn't been said before? The sound design is incredible. The atmosphere is great. The physics engine, the gameplay itself, the core game loop are all very well designed. Dead Space has a lot of enemy variety and great enemy design, combined with great action design. I am not the biggest fan of the bosses in this game. I think they are a bit underwhelming and repetitive. Also, I think the game is 20% longer than it should be.

Final Thoughts

Overall, smart HUD, non-stop fluid gameplay, and a horror atmosphere makes the game an important entry in video-game history. The most important thing is, that it's really fun to play a 2008 game in 2025.

I agree with the reviewer we didn't need it. Is it bad...of course not its great, but i rather the rebooted the series or did a sequel. The original game is still great and and playing a survival horror game a second time is never as enjoyable as the first imo.

Lol waste of effort. These type of reviews is why companies don't invest in quality remakes like this too often. They make a great game that overshadows the old one in every way (except the voice acting). But people still find ways to complain.
