I've played a fair amount of hoi4 and overall it's a pretty good game. There's almost a never endless amount of things to do or countries to play, and all of that upon the hundreds of mods you can chose from. Only reason that I was able to sink in so much of my time into hoi. Playing with friends or doing comp games is also a major highlight.
Although there's alot to like about the game, there are some setbacks. In late game, the game chugs through and my framerate drops from 120+ to below 60, almost 30 (I don't know the exact range). Another thing is the annoying desync that happens from time to time if you don't clear your user directory (I always have to clear it when playing online with others and it starts to get annoying quite fast). Although I would call myself experienced (not good by a long shot lmao), there's a huge learning curve, I recommend a couple hours reading on the wiki and tutorials (CK2 has nothing on hoi in terms of complexity).
But yeah, if you can learn it and get past the lag/connection issues, hoi4 is pretty good (would highly recommend dlc as without it the game is not as fun.)
