You can take already existing wallpapers, edit wallpapers, change the colors, add animations to them with the free DLC, if the gif has music to it it will play the song unless you want to mute it, then you can do that. Some gifs have visualizers for music, some backgrounds track your mouse, on some you can play some mini-games on your desktop, all of those being paused while you're not on your desktop so it's not even a CPU-intensive Software and to come along with it, the music that comes with the animated backgrounds is also stopped while you're not on desktop.
My favorite feature of all is the fact that you can have ANY gif as a desktop background along with the audio (or muted if you don't to hear it) with the "offline wallpaper" feature. I've used this for so many ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ memes that i've lost count. Wallpaper Engine also has a phone extension that doesn't seem to work for me, but that's just an added bonus if it does actually work for you to the best overall animated background Software.
