An easier, platform heavier version of Hollow Knight.

If you found hollow knight too hard or tedious then you will enjoy this game.
If you loved hollow knight for everything it offered then you will enjoy this game.

Never once was i frustrated whilst playing this game, everything felt fair and clearly explained. I found that backtracking was less prevalent in Ori compared to other metroidvanias I have played.

The platforming was very satisfying and chaining together abilities always felt amazing and empowering. Compared to Hollow knight (the gold standard, some might say) the platforming is more forgiving but still a reasonable challenge.

It is definitely a simpler metroidvanina but it is a very good one.

Story is cute tho :)

Eh again, I wish there was a 'neutral' review option.
Nothing about this game is egregiously bad or tedious to play but for me, it did not hook me strong enough for me to finish the game out.

The deck building, world building and folklore are the games strongest features and if you're even remotely interested in the topic, you will really enjoy your experience. I could not have cared less but still found myself reading all the notes, and pieces of folklore dropped in here and there.

I've just finished a very long section of the game (~4 or 5 hours) and found myself losing patience towards the end. Imagine my shock when I see that I've only finished chapter 1 and broke one seal...
I have 6 more seals to break.

idk man, the game isn't bad but it does nothing for me to want to keep playing to finish. It feels wrong giving this game a negative review because it is a clear labour of love and, for the right person, may be the perfect game. The only battles that were fun and engaging were the boss battles however, those are too few and far between it seems. The game loves littering your path with weak mob-like enemies who you can burst down with your eyes closed. It just gets a bit boring.

For me, I'd just much rather play slay the spire.

Not a positive review; not a negative review. Just a review.

Fun game. No FOV setting. First time i've felt motion sick whilst playing a game. Shame...

One of the best 'unique' games I've played in a while.

Disco Elysium is a game purely based on stellar voice acting, interesting characters and an engaging mystery to unravel.
There is zero, and i mean it, zero action in this game. It is all done through clicking around the game world to move and reading/listening to character dialogue.

But all of that was perfect.

One of the few games where I've actually just sat back and listened to character dialogue instead of reading the text and skipping. I cannot think of a game that rivals this one in its voice acting prowess. My best advice would be to take your time. Enjoy the world and story unravelling in front of you. Do not rush anything. You can achieve it all.

The RPG aspect of this game is very unique. I can confidently say for the first time about any game that there truly is no 'wrong build'. A lot of games advertise that their game is *truly* free form and that any skill is viable but none of those hold a candle to the DiscoElysium style. It's hard to describe but it becomes very straightforward after a few hours of levelling up.

It can get a bit tedious after getting presented with walls of text after walls of text but thats why i think this game is best played in short bursts, spaced out over a long period; not too dissimilar to a book.

I think thats the best way to describe this game, an interactive book. The amount of exposition, character development and world building is sometime i've not seen in other games, ever.

Disco Elysium has truly captured lightning in a bottle in its perfect little niche. Its funny, quirky, charismatic, sad and introspective. You'd be a fool to give it a miss. If only I could wipe my brain and do it all again

p.s you can roleplay as your favourite political ideology too!

EDIT: It's been a good few months since I finished this game and I can't stop thinking about it. I wake up in cold sweats with the foreboding fear that no game, no other art medium will be able to capture the feeling I had when playing this game.

So the thing I keep thinking about is, was it worth it to be happy for a little bit, even though it ended up sad?

Is it better to have love and lost than to never have loved at all?

Harrier Du Bois. Kim Kitsuragi. What we had was special.

I had heard tales, nay, legends of the man they called Joshua 'The Burned Man' Graham. I was told that this DLC is where it all unfolds. With my expectations sky high, I ventured into the Zion landscape.

Holy, this DLC is bad, like really bad. It somehow manages to combine two of the gravest sins an open world game can make; Boring ass quests and boring ass exploration.

Every quest leading to the ultimate finale is a glorified fetch quests to send me to another similar looking landscape. Yay thanks Josh. There is only one reason to explore and that is to uncover the story of the 'Father' which, to be fair, is a great piece of background storytelling.

The lore and story in this DLC is not the problem, it is very interesting and engaging but it feels rushed, half-baked and unfinished. For me, this DLC was carried by the main man himself MR JOSHUA GRAHAM and the Survivalist/Father.

But I mean, I would still play it again. It seems like a sin to give this DLC a negative review simply because of Joshua. If only the rest of the DLC could even get to half of his quality then maybe, just maybe, we'd have a solid DLC on our hands here.

(Daniel, my man, you cannot be the least charismatic person on the planet and be shocked when people choose graham's route over yours. cmon man.)

I can't believe how wrong everyone is.

I went into this DLC with bated breath after hearing all the horrible things people had to say about it.
The constant beeping, explosives, traps etc etc. I was tentative.

Boy were they wrong lmao. Yeah its there; traps are present and you do have to be careful about not blowing up but it SERIOUSLY is no where near as bad as these weirdos are making it out to be.

The people screaming and crying that the DLC is bad are the same people who just run through shooting everything because they can. They don't even stop to consider that there may be a better, more optimal way to play this DLC. Stop crying and adapt. Let go of your old, barbaric playstyle and accept that it doesn't work

It is a fantastic bit of DLC with a new area, new weapons and new armour.
The new characters introduced are brilliantly written and tbh the story is what kept this DLC going for me.
The intrigue behind the casino, the intrigue behind the motives of everyone there is absolutely perfect.

The slander will not go unpunished...

This is more of an experience than a game. Full of good vibes. Big up my man Milo, wish you nothing but the best G.
It looks like a series of really nice paintings turned into a game to illustrate a small but nice story of a Cat reuniting with his owner.
It's not going to blow you away but it will make you smile.

Wish there was an option to leave a neutral review.
It is by no means a bad game or a bad souls game; its a perfectly adequate one. It is a fun experience and the new direction of the open world, on the whole, works out pretty well.

Pros
+ More weapon diversity
+ Unique builds are actually viable
+ Magic/INT is not useless this game
+ Landscapes and areas are beautiful to look at

Cons
- Too. Much. Repetition. Both in bosses that become minibosses that you will see 5-6 times over and the same dungeon over and over and over and over again.

- Exploration, on a whole, is largely tedious but that isn't unique to this game; every open world game suffers from this.

- Game can be trivialised through exploration. Now there is nothing wrong with making the game easier for yourself if you need to. Im not some Soulslike elitist. The problem arises when you unintentionally over level through means that the game encourages such as exploration. The game becomes boring when im one shotting everything and i had no intention to over-level; its a consequence of the open world. So the options remain
1. I explore and overlevel making the game a cake walk
2. I blaze through the main story and then explore whereupon the items found whilst exploring become useless unless i go into NG+

- Open world is fun, but it feels gimmicky. I much preferred the tight, controlled experiences of DS and sekiro.

- Also, game runs like absolute dogwater which makes dodging hard and it leads to exploring badly optimised areas being an absolute abhorrent experience

Its a good game, truly, but i think the calls for 'Best Game Ever' are a stretch.
Its a good soulslike game and a welcome addition to the list but i don't think this game has the same draw, the same replayability as the Souls titles and sekiro.

DS3 > Elden ring

EDIT: played it more. It kinda bangs ngl.

Thought i was being a saint by not letting a strip club owner through to Arstotzka because a stripper told me he's dangerous and wants to take away the girls' passports.

He ended up killing all the girls in the Kolechian strip club instead :)))))))
