It's a good game. It has some incredible vistas/environments, and the car system is both unique and extremely fun... until you fully upgrade it. Once you do that, two of the primarily fun mechanics that make up the bulk of the gameplay go right out the window. Not only do you lose the upgrade progression that drives a lot of the early gameplay, but you also acquire homing rockets that render the extremely fun car-to-car ramming combat totally obsolete. Instead of pumping your speed to get alongside a foe and slam them into oblivion, you just get within several yards and press a button to make them explode. The on-foot combat is extremely basic asscreed stuff. It's serviceable but insipid. The little nooks and crannies and outposts that you can dig through around the world serve to break up the driving, but you don't find much aside from basic upgrade materials and boring enemies to punch. It's a really good game until you "max" out. Exceptional, even. If you can force yourself to not use the rockets, it's still ok, but definitely loses steam once you run out of things to upgrade. Maybe I'd recommend not going too fast on the upgrades so that it can sustain you throughout the story. Either way, it's worth $20, that's for sure.

It's just a jankier, crappier version of the RE2 remake. It's not bad, but definitely not worth $60. It's like a $20-30 game at most. I can sense the soul of a better game underneath, but it appears that Crapcom decided to throw it out the door before it was ready. It needed another full year of work.

Minor Spoilers Follow

It starts off decently, but very quickly it devolves into a generic, linear shooter. The demo totally misrepresents what the game/nemesis is actually like. It treads the same tired level themes as the 2 remake and just gives us inferior versions of what we got in that game. The production values are absolutely atrocious. Brad looks, sounds and animates like a joke. There's a big arena shootout setpiece where you mow down a bunch of zombies and their bodies just explode (with terrible particle effects) instead of fading out over time. The bosses are pretty much all bad. The final boss is downright terrible. The demo truly is the highlight of the entire game, and it happens within the first 20 minutes. The hospital was ok, but the hunters were just janky as all hell. The power station with the bugs was also nice, but too short/simple. It constantly feels like it's missing content. Not just content they cut from RE3, but content they cut from THIS remake. It's not just unpolished, it's unfinished, with awkward transitions and hurried player funneling.

I'll probably still play through it 12 times, but this is like a 6/10 at best, and a really bad move for Capcom to do to one of their iconic games/series, especially after showing signs of love and care with RE7 & RE2R. I get that not every game a company makes is going to be AAA, and some will simply be needed cash injections, but you don't do that with RE3.

RE2 absolutley is superior to 3 as far as I can tell. 3 reuses the zombies from 2 and somehow has less variety. Most glaringly, the game just feels janky/unpolished compared to 2. Stiff animations and some ugly particle effects. Head pops don't sound/look as satisfying. Also, with more wide open spaces, you notice the laggy animations at a distance a LOT more. Half the zombies I kill are janking around in slideshow mode. The big thing that triggered me was the unkillable zombies and infinitely-banging doors acting as gating mechanisms. I truly hope that is just what they slapped together for the demo, because such things scream amateur designers. You don't introduce completely atypical gameplay elements that totally break the established conventions and also break immersion simply to work around the need to funnel the player places. That's just hamfisted/lazy. Design choices like that could spell disaster if they permeate the real game. I still enjoyed it a lot, though. What little of the level design I saw was good. Lots of interconnectedness. The dodge mechanic does add a layer to combat and seems like it might give the game more of an identity. I'll probably put 100+ hours into it. It's still Resident Evil, and not 6-tier. It's just a B-Team RE2 spin off. If you go in understanding that, you can overlook a lot of the obviously-less-polished aspects and just enjoy a solid RE game. However, unless the final product really does something special, it does not feel as though it should be priced over $40.

This game is for people who like FPS, cyberpunk, game history, or a combo of all three.

It starts off pretty basic/mediocre. They should give you a certain weapon earlier than they do, and the weapon mod system tends to leave you kind of barebones for longer than I'd like. But once you unlock that particular weapon and the upgrade system opens up, it really does start to take on a life of its own. It did manage to differentiate itself from any random shooter and it became way more fun as a result.

It's good. It's not great. But it's good. Worth $20, though some people might feel burned by that price at first. But I can say for certain that it earned its asking price for me.

I never played Chiv, but I love this. Really does a great job of simulating intense battles. High skill ceiling means a lot of dying, but also a lot of growth and depth. The meta might need tweaking, but even in its worst times it's still a fantastic game. The emote and customization systems also add a lot of charm. Battles can be occasionally funny if the right stuff happens, but it's mostly just brutal violence with a lot of thought, which is exactly what you want out of a game like Mordhau.

It's an exceptional game. If you take your time, your first campaign could stretch over 10 hours. And it's 10 amazing hours. That alone is worth the price, in my opinion. But the RE games are meant to be replayed over and over, and RE2 is no different. There are two versions of each campaign for each of the two characters, plus a few short free DLC campaigns. The game incentivizes efficient play, so it can be really fun to speedrun through and see how flawless you can be.

But before you think about the replayability, which it does have in spades, you should really focus on your first campaign experience. Mine was pretty damn strong. I recommend you take your time with it. It's meant to be an immersive experience. You should wear headphones and be dead to the world. I personally think Leon's campaign is the definitive choice. He's a more interesting character, and the feeling of being the plucky rookie stumbling into chaos is something that isn't matched by Claire's more generic feel.

I also recommend playing in Hardcore mode, as it is really the only way to understand what RE is about. Trying to chunk together decisions in order to get as much stuff done in between limited saves makes for a very engaging game. The increased difficulty raises the tension and reward. The only caveat here is that there is one boss fight about 2/3 of the way through the game at the end of the sewers that is just not balanced properly for Hardcore mode. I highly recommend conserving power weapons for that fight. I had to reload an earlier save and redo the entire area because I didn't have enough ammo on my current save. It created an absurd difficulty spike in an otherwise perfect curve.

In addition to the main campaign, which has 4 (extremely) slightly different "routes" to play, there is also a handful of bonus modes, most of which involving timed runs through a gauntlet of zombies. They're really fun in their own right. They can push total playtime over 100 hours if you're really into them and re-running campaigns. Otherwise, you get an exceptionally good single-player campaign experience.

Playing on Hardcore mode, RE2 is possibly the best survival horror game I've played. No playthrough will be as good as your first, but you will still find yourself playing it over and over again and having a ton of fun each time. It rewards learning its systems. I hope that Capcom continues this trend into the future and that we get more games like this from other developers.

It's not perfect. Some of the VO is under-delivered. None of the actors play with particularly much personality. There's some jank animations here and there. That one crap boss fight. But CAPCOM knows how to make a frigging game. They know what's fun. It's as good as it gets. Plus, it's got one of the best gore systems I've ever seen, so it's got my recommendation for that.
