Score: 2/10.
May 24 2023: Update 7: Devs still aren't banning obvious hackers, cheaters, racists and people who grief on purpose over 20 minutes. Avoid.

--
Update 6: Still filled with cheaters, hackers ,bmers and sweaty people who play the strongest killer and tunnel/camp at 5 gens, and swf bully squads who stack the best items and bm the entire game. Took them months to fix eruption so that solo q players aren't suffering. Haven't yet fixed nftman camping on box and holding the game hostage for an hour+. Doesn't provide incentives for players to play nice nor disincentives for nasty players and harrassers to get banned or warned. I STILL have a racist player who refused to play the game + harrassment and its been almost a year they have yet to be banned. Terrible new chapter feels rushed, lots of people on both sides not enjoying the kick + genrush meta.

Update 5: There's a big Hacker problem in Dbd. Now most of my ticket reports are unanswered. MMR has driven most of my friends who play this game away.
You get the worst of players on both sides, and you don't get any fun. Nor get rewarded for playing well. It's a shame that the devs don't listen to their playerbase to REMOVE MMR.
Boon totems are still way too strong. Saying this as a surv main.
Unfortunate. :(

Update 4: Most Dbd Veterans and friends I know don't play Dbd anymore, or Dbd for as long as they used to now. MMR is a strain on players when the game isn't competitively balanced and people can stack the best addons, instaheals, perks, in a comm SWAT team swf + map + abuse infinites nonstop. Matchmaking is also worse than before. I either get 6k hour SWAT team survivors when I'm barely an average Pig, or 20h newbies. No way I am either.
-

Update 3: MMR seems to be making most people's games miserable to play. Both sides are very sweaty, and both sides are suffering for it since the game isn't balanced. Players are misusing Keys / Instaheals + Map Offerings + Strong perks + "competitive styled comms" + continuously abusing strong loops which is near infinites or Strong maps + Strongest Addons + Camping/Tunnelling/Slugging mapwide at 5 gens when people just want normal games or use non meta perks.
It's either a full sweatfest, or a literal newbie who is just starting to play the game vs people with thousands of hours. Rarely are there inbetweens. This isn't fun nor fair.

Ask anyone who plays Dbd regularly and you'll see that most have cut down on their time on Dbd as it's still as unbalanced in matchmaking, and also become less fun.

Seriously questioning their decision to implement MMR when majority of the playerbase (which they asked in surveys too) did not want this.

----

Update 2: They nerfed my girl Pig again. Taking away her hat killing power is OK in exchange of making her base self better. HOWEVER they didn't buff her already situational ambush and base kit, removed her extra boxes, put her extra hats in rarer addons, and removed her crouch charge speed addon and added 2 addons that INCREASE the time to charge her ambush. WHEN HER POWER IS ALREADY SO SITUATIONAL. TLDR PIG NERF, AGAIN and they disguised it as a pig buff....
Boon totems are also literally gamebreaking : /
Other than that, rest of changes are good. But game is still suffering from tons of bugs. And being Pig is suffering.

Update on score. Several literal gamebreaking bugs, 4 maps disabled as of the time of the review with Hawkins Lab getting removed soon (5 maps). Yet BHVR still focuses on adding SBMM to a non-competitive game where people are already very toxic, instead of fixing bugs that make the game literally unbearable. And more cosmetics which cost more than the price of a dlc. Yay.
---

Summary: Despite the fun games on the rare occasion, I honestly would not recommend.
Game has so much potential but the devs rarely listen, gamebreaking bugs in game for weeks-months, community is way too toxic and it has bad matchmaking.

--
Example of bugs which have been around:
Console players being unable to play the game for several weeks due to crashes during this event with no compensation. Still hasn't been fixed after weeks. Giant lag spikes and framerate drops.

Pig’s ambush bug ending early, Nurse bugs where she cannot use her power for 8s+ unless you literally do nothing. Clown with slowdown bottles that don't work sometimes. Blight who cannot use his bounce power. Killer chases that don’t register till much much later, M1 lunge bug (sometimes long, sometimes short hits when you do the opposite) and surv pickup bugs in numerous spots. In addition to lag spikes, frame drops, being literally unplayable for awhile with a matchmaking bug right after the Mid chapter patch dropped, killers getting stuck at the fun bus on autohaven. Game Health isn’t looking the best.

Current "event" is also recycled from last year, after the devs claimed they want to save good events for Anniversary and Halloween. They have been very stingy with bloodpoints/shards, bloodpoint events, free cosmetics. For example- The free track of the rift could have a small about of bp or shards each level, but it remains empty for many levels. BP events have not happened since the Bloodhunt more than a year ago, and another year+ before that when they used to have more events like the Scorching Summer BBQ event.

Review:
Devs barely listen to the community unless something outrages them and many people leave (Colourblind settings only happening when a big accessibility advocate called them out on twitter, Desync bug and people mass leaving dbd...). Many players and even Dbd partners have suggested reasonable ways to improve the game with very simple fixes, but they refuse to take ideas from even them. So much dlc, cosmetics which cost more than the game itself on a sale (used to be cosmetic dlcs which are $5 for several pieces, then $10, now even $15 for "legendary" skins) and recolours and empty tiers in the gamepass when it could be so much better. And yet, the game has so many gamebreaking bugs (Pallet bug claims to be fixed, but still there after 3 weeks... Nurse blink bug been here for months...) and the devs refuse to have a game health bugfix patch. Despite the balance in game being better than before, but they still do questionable things like nerfing Pig when her base kit isn't particularly spectacular, making revamped maps like The Game even worse than before, and leaving god windows on farm maps and groaning storehouse there for players to abuse.

As for the community. The devs do not care about toxicity and harrassment by other players. So many campers, tunnellers (talking about at 4-5 gens), bmers, hackers even. And mean survs who abuse ooo on swf with comms (finally fixed after FIVE years...), tbagging at every opportunity, flashlighting, taunting with emoting, map offerings, instaheals, abusing certain strong loops over and over and attacking players, even going so far to follow the killer in games to taunt them when they are clearly at lower ranks. Some even harrass you outside of games, and not much is done despite sending in a helpdesk ticket. It's shocking that players don't give the opponents a game without bming when the ranking is terrible. And this even starts happening at ranks 12-17 as killer. (you start at 20.)

I know of a good handful of dbd veterans leaving the game. It’s not been in a good state. The only redeeming feature about Dbd is that the art team tries. And there's The Pig in the game. Other than that, save your sanity. Look for other games that value you as a player.

----
TLDR. Not worth your time unless the Devs buck up, fix dbd's literally game breaking bugs, and start caring about the community instead of making more dlcs and cosmetics as "new content". And if they actually start being more against toxicity so games on both sides are less painful to play. It's extremely rare to have a fair game these days..
